Happiness of Society and Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma

Happiness of society and Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma

Happiness is defined as the absence of conflict, strife, and conflict; instead, it refers to the ability to live together in harmony, embracing intimacy through mutual understanding.

Happiness is very important to human beings, but it is important not only to human beings but also to all living beings as long as the world exists. Happiness is desired by everyone as long as there is happiness in the world, but it is often difficult to achieve it because of the inability to think for oneself, one's egoism, arrogance, and greed.

Those who felt that happiness was essential to survival worked tirelessly to establish it in society. They have also established themselves as one of the greatest people in the world for doing such great work.

From 1901 to 2023, there have been a total of 111 Nobel laureates, considered the world's greatest and most prestigious, working for peace. So far, about 30 organizations working for peace have also been given this award.

Jean-Henri Dunant, a Swiss businessman, tried to help the wounded and sick of thousands of Italian, French, and Australian soldiers killed by each other and worked tirelessly to create a sense of mutual solidarity throughout the world.

He formed an International Committee of the Red Cross at great expense and led it to the Geneva Conference. He received this award for his efforts to promote humanism as a means of promoting world peace.

Frédéric Passy, a scientist, politician, economist and peace activist from the city of Ferris in France, worked for world peace as the first president of the French Peace Society. He presented his views and ideas at peace conferences in all countries. It was for this work that he received the Nobel Peace Prize.

The Nobel laureates in peace work that we Indians and Bodo people have come to know or discuss most closely are Mother Teresa, Nelson Mandela, Tenzin Gyatoo (Dalai Lama), Malala Yousafzai, and Barack Obama. Much is known about their work for world peace. Despite not winning the Nobel Prize, the Father of the Nation of India, Mahatma Gandhi, has awakened the spirit of peace and non-violence in the world and has continued to establish it.

His work has been rooted in the idea of living with brotherhood and belongingness among the billions of people of India spread across many races, languages, religions, cultures, civilizations, with a strong focus on happiness and peace.

Contemporary with Mahatma Gandhi, Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, who met while working and influenced each other in later life, also did not hesitate to work for peace. His actions were aimed at establishing peace between the Boro community and the people of the entire state of Assam. He used to ask and advise people to leave the work they were doing which caused a stir among the brothers, wives and neighbours of a family.

The main causes of unrest in a family, village, society, and region were thought to be alcoholism, bigotry, theft, laziness, dacoity, lack of respect for elders, lack of love for children, and lack of interest in education. Therefore, he worked on the premise that if a world is to be happy, reform must begin within the family.

He banned the use of intoxicants, banned the sale of alcoholic beverages, banned excessive smoking, banned the practice of thievery, advised lazy people to work, condemned and banned the taking of jewelry, forbade the picking and throwing of people, urged temperance, advised respect for elders, taught the younger ones how to love and advised them to learn. Schools were also set up for education.

In many conferences held during his lifetime, he gave lectures on how happiness could be established in society. He discussed how happiness could be restored by visiting someone's village and meeting someone. Below are just a few of his comments, discussed in detail.

1. "My dear Bodo people, please don't play dacoits, goons. Somebody is a farmer, somebody is employed, somebody does business. Learn to weave, become literate."
2. "Mothers also try to worship God, teach children to be kind and loving, to speak the truth, to respect their husbands, and to reign in peace with kindness."
3. "Due to alcoholism, wealth is lost, honour and respect are lost. "
4. "One should maintain cleanliness in one's own body, house, and surroundings. A grain of rice, a cow, a goat should also be properly taken care of."

One of the major objectives of Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma's propagation of 'Brahma Dharma' was to maintain peace. This is an effort to make every person and every living being in the world easily recognizable by thinking of them as their own personal selves. Work on how to cleanse the area of bad smells and polluted environment by making offerings to the fire with sweet, tasty and fragrant fruits. Because of the stench and the unhygienic environment, many people fall sick very quickly and die. For this reason, a family needs to be happy and content every day. The six cardinal precepts of Brahma Dharma are to be followed and by following them one can attain bliss. These six suggestions are:

(a) The world should be kept clean.
(b) Love all equally.
(c) Offer in the fire.
(d) The Aum should be chanted.
(e) One should hold a jyoti.
(f) Must be stable.

No one in the world is going to last forever. Time itself tells when one has to leave this world and go back. It is everyone's responsibility to work for the welfare or happiness of the world while living. Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma advised and encouraged others to work along with their work.

He thought that it would be better if the educated people, in particular, were encouraged to do good work, so the student council donated money and spoke well to the students he met at that time, such as Rupnath Brahma, Madaram Brahma, Satish Chandra Basumatary, Sabharam Brahma, and a few well-known people, reminding them of their heavy responsibility. Taking responsibility, the members of the student council also worked as much as they could.

By the time of their execution, the main causes of unrest in the Boro society such as kidnapping, female infanticide, laziness, irreligion, lack of love, indiscipline, lust, mutual violence, and rivalry had disappeared. Gradually, the happiness of cleanliness and mutual respect and harmony increased in the Boro society. They also found a way to move upwards.

According to Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma, all actions and movements should be based on deep understanding and non-violence. This right was well understood by the Literate Bodo Students' Association and continues to operate as such. Upendranath Brahma also led the Bodoland movement for a separate state for the Boros on political rights. But some people also tried to agitate in other ways because of which the true value of happiness could not be found in the society.

They were seen killing each other, using their power quickly, attacking, humiliating and so on. Later, due to people dubbing themselves as community servants in the name of some illiterate organization, the Boros were looked down upon by the army and police and an atmosphere of dissatisfaction was created among the Boros. The Boros received a bad name or notoriety as a caste.

A hundred years ago, Kalicharan Brahma saw such a situation and tried to rectify it. With the seriousness of the Boro Students' Union, in order to create and establish a peaceful atmosphere in the Boro society, it was able to solve it by holding talks with the armed organizations of the Boros and ended a chaotic situation in the Boro community. In this regard, the BTR agreement between the Bodo people, Assam government and the Government of India, which was signed on 27 January 2020, is noteworthy.

Student organizations certainly have a heavy responsibility to perform. They should start working with a plan for how to establish peace in the world and the government should also work with a plan as far as possible.

Mahatma Gandhi said, non-violence is the best religion. Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma also believed that the greatest way to attain happiness is to give up one's laziness, to be non-violent, to understand each other, to be respectful, to be compassionate and to be united. For this, every person should come forward to work.
