The Story of a Single Rose
Once, a girl planted a rose bush by the side of her house. She took great care of it. One day, a beautiful rose blossomed on the bush. It was the most beautiful flower in the area, and she cherished it greatly. She felt immense peace and happiness looking at its beauty, believing there was nothing else in the world as beautiful or as peaceful.
The girl loved the scent of the flower. It smelled even better when she came to see it after finishing her daily chores. The rose truly brought great joy to the girl's heart. Whenever she came near the rose, she felt like returning to it again and again. She would even forget to eat her meals while playing with the rose, and sometimes she would even forget to attend to her other daily tasks.
Seeing this closeness, other flowers became jealous. The girl cared for the rose so deeply that other flowers wished to be cared for in the same way.
One day, the girl came to the side of the rose bush to look at it. Seeing her, the rose bloomed with great joy. It spoke to the girl.
"Do come here every morning and evening! I feel very peaceful when I talk to you. We shall always remain together like this. Whenever there is no school, come and visit me!"
The girl replied, "I will. I will take good care of you. As soon as school ends, I will bring some water and come to your side."
The girl, having left her younger sister at school, returned home. She took a sharp knife and went to the side of the rose bush, and started cutting the bush down. The rose immediately felt great sadness. Tears welled up in its eyes. Before falling to the ground, the rose thought, "Why was I created so beautiful? If I were not this beautiful, I could have lived in this world with so much happiness..."
Just as she promised, the girl brought water to the rose bush as soon as school ended, but she was very sad not to see the flower.
