Only dead fish get carried away by the river’s flow

One day, a man was sitting on the riverbank. The river was so clear that he could easily see the rocks and fish beneath the water.

He watched the fish for a while. They moved however they wanted—some going forward, some going backward. They swam through steep parts and gentle slopes.

After a short time, he noticed a dead fish being carried away by the current. The river flowed on. He realized there was a difference between live fish and dead ones. It seemed like only the dead fish get swept away by the river’s flow.
