The Poets

Madaram Brahma (1903- 1992) was a renowned Indian poet and dramatist who wrote in the Bodo language. Born in 1903 in Kokrajhar, Assam, he was a pioneer of Bodo literature and education.

Some notable works include Khonthai Methai (Poems and Lyrics–1923), Boroni Gudi Sipsa Arw Aroj (Bodo Hymn and Prayer Songs–1926), and Raimali (Drama–1926).

He was awarded the Padma Shri in 1988 for his contributions to Bodo literature and education.

Ishan Mushahary (1915-1940) was a renowned Bodo poet, known for his romantic poetry and often referred to as the "John Keats of Bodos". He passed away at a young age of 25, leaving behind a significant impact on Bodo literature. His birth centenary was celebrated at Kokrajhar Government College, where a portrait of his was unveiled, and various competitions were held to mark the occasion.

Ishan Mushahary's poetry explores themes of beauty, nature, and femininity, drawing from his cultural and natural surroundings. His work is considered a prime example of Bodo Romantic poetry, sharing universal Romantic ideals.

He composed two books of poetry namely Sonani Mala and Phamee.

Kamal Kumar Brahma was a renowned Bodo playwright, poet, grammarian, and educationist who made significant contributions to Bodo literature, language, and cinema. He's considered the first Bodo grammarian, with notable works like Gibi Raokhanthi (1968) and Gwnang Raokhanthi (1972) laying the foundation for Bodo grammar and linguistics.

Some of his notable literary works include:
-Dulali (1954), an Assamese poetry book
-Amarni Methai (2000), a Bodo translation of The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam
- Mimangni Simang (1977), a social tragedy drama
- Raja Eragdao (1978), a historical drama

He played a key role in promoting Bodo cinema, serving as president of the Bodo Film Society and scripting the first Bodo documentary film, Daina (1984), and the feature film Jiuni Simang (1987).

Brajendra Kumar Brahma is a renowned Bodo poet and writer from India. He's best known for editing the poetry anthology "Baidi Dengkhw Baidi Gab", which earned him the prestigious Sahitya Akademi Award in 2015.

Brahma has been associated with the Bodo Sahitya Sabha for a long time, serving as its president from 2002-04 and 2005-07.

He's also been recognized with the Tagore Literary Award in 2009 for his prose collection "Raithai Mala".
