Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma was the first to propagate Brahmoism in Assam. He was born to Bodo speaking family. He is known as a social reformer. He went to Shillong in 1929 to submit a memorandum to the Simon Commission for the political rights of the tribal people in Assam.

Rupnath Brahma was a poet and politician. He helped propagate Brahmoism along with Gurudev Kalicharan Brahma. He became the foremost lawyer and politician among the Boro people. He became a minister in Assam for thirty years. He was a prominent poet of the Phul era of Boro literature whose poetic creations captured the spirit of love, community awakening and devotion to God.

Madaram Brahma was the first among the Bodo community to receive the Padma Shri award. He was a poet and a social activist. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 1988 for his contributions to literature and education. One of his notable literary creations is 'Boroni Gudi Sibsa Arw Aroj (1926).

Chittarajan Muchahary was the first novelist in Bodo literature. His novel 'Jujaini Or' was published in the year 1962. He wrote more than fifty novels till his death.
